OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES OF THE COLD CHAIN

The cold chain, or temperature controlled supply chain, is essential for many industries.

The growth of the cold chain in developing countries

In most developing countries such as South Africa, Mexico and Kenya, the cold chain is concentrated in urban centers and transportation terminals, such as airports.

Mexico has had a great capacity for growth in the cold chain industry in recent years, which is based mainly on the behavior of the sectors: food, pharmaceutical industry, retail and franchises.

Maintain a safe cold chain for life-saving pharmaceuticals

Overcoming these hurdles requires a combination of supply chain expertise, creativity, and an understanding of culture.

For example, the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) has expanded its reach globally to more than 70 countries, and the challenge of safely delivering critical drugs to patients in remote regions of the world presents a number of challenges.

In underdeveloped areas with poor infrastructure, primitive airports, and little regulation, the onus lies with the WFH to maintain a safe cold supply chain and meet the criteria of its donor companies.

Maintain a safe cold chain for life-saving pharmaceuticals

QProducts and Services understands that there are many obstacles to delivering consumer goods, medicine, food and other necessities to the developing regions of the world.

Keeping life-saving drugs within the allowed temperature ranges as dictated by the stability studies of each manufacturer is the greatest risk to the integrity and safety of the donated medicine.

The most cost-effective way to ensure compliance remains the use of PalletQuilt®, a form of passive temperature protection.

It enables WFH to ship these 2-8 ° C pharmaceuticals to places such as Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia without conventional temperature control and without compromising the safety and integrity of both the drug itself and the patients they depend on in that.

The PalletQuilt® solution from QProducts and Services offers the reflective radiant barrier and robust insulation needed to withstand harsh conditions and keep donated medicine safe.

Georgios Ampartzidis, WFH Logistics Manager, says: "By using PalletQuilts over the past year to donate and ship pharmaceuticals to more than 70 countries, we completely avoid temperature drifts that could compromise the integrity and safety of donated products ".
