SMARTER INVENTORY MANAGEMENT THROUGH RFID

The global supply chain and logistics operations continue to evolve at a rapid pace

From the rapid growth of e-commerce to ever-increasing customer demand for personalization and free next-day delivery, warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturers face more pressure and competition than ever.

The Case for RFID Inventory Tracking

To meet the current demands of distribution centers and manufacturers, many companies are turning to UHF RFID to help optimize their businesses and meet market demands.

RFID enables associates to cycle through inventory without physically seeing a barcode, greatly improving efficiency as RFID scans can be performed in seconds.

This greatly increases inventory integrity by allowing inventory to be taken for items that are still inside a cardboard or plastic box while keeping it factory sealed or for items that are high on the shelf.

RFID also improves inventory visibility by providing near real-time updates and faster scanning.

With RFID readers attached to doorways, doors, or ceilings, you can determine exactly when and where the material is moving, but these static readers require infrastructure changes and upgrades.

The standardized approach to RFID cycle counting is to use a handheld reader or place a reader on a forklift. In both cases, labor and equipment are still required.

Automating RFID Cycle Counting with Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR)

Fetch Robotics has designed a complete solution to automate RFID cycle counts, combining powerful cloud-based software with an autonomous mobile robot (AMR).

Fetch Robotics TagSurveyor is an AMR that is affixed with a UHF Gen 2 reader and has the ability to navigate warehouses autonomously while capturing RFID tag data without human intervention.

TagSurveyor can be programmed to carry out a total or partial count at any time of the day and even several times a day.

Then it streams all RFID data to our FetchCore software, which provides RFID tag viewing and reporting in a simple user interface.

In one pass on a TagSurveyor survey route, FetchCore can display the estimated location of all RFID tags on a warehouse map, while identifying unexpected and undetected tags.

TagSurveyor and FetchCore make it easy for warehouses and factories to gain useful information to support key business decisions related to inventory.

In this way, TagSurveyor augments its current workforce by automating manual counts and enables human associates to manage higher-level tasks such as decision-making, analysis, and proactive handling of inventory discrepancies.
